Mummy hot dogs

Prep Time10 minutes

Servings: 8 mummy hot dogs

Ingredients

for the hot dogs:

  • 8 hot dogs
  • about 10 oz pizza dough you can also use crescent dough or puff pastry (230-280g)
  • 3 slices cheese optional
  • 16 candy eyes or a small amount of mustard

to serve:

  • ketchup
  • mustard

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Cut the pizza dough into thin strips (if using homemade pizza dough, roll it out into a rectangle, about 1/4-inch or 5mm thick, then cut into strips). You can use a sharp knife or a pizza cutter.
  • Place one piece of cheese underneath a hot dog.
  • Wrap the dough around the hot dog and cheese creating 'bandages', make sure to leave the gap for the eyes.
  • Place your mummies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (cheese-side down).
  • Bake for about 15 minutes, until the dough is lightly golden.
  • "Glue" the candy eyes to the mummies using a bit of mustard or ketchup.
  • Make spider's web ketchup-mustard dip. Pour some ketchup into a small bowl, draw a few circles on top with the mustard, use a toothpick to draw the lines from the center to the edge to create a spider's web design.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

  • If using crescent dough: You can buy the kind that has perforations in it or the kind that is one solid rectangle of dough. Separate crescent roll dough into 2 rectangles, seal seams and perforations. Cut each rectangle into thin strips. Wrap the dough around hot dogs. Stretch the dough while wrapping the dogs to make the dough a little bit thinner. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
  • If you don't have candy eyes, you can just place small dots of mustard instead (you can use a toothpick to do that)
  • Calories = 1 mummy hot dog. This is only an estimate!
