BBQ Chicken Wrap

3 April 2022 | Last Updated: 11 July 2024 By Aleksandra

This bbq chicken wrap comes together in no time and it’s so good it’s hard to stop eating it! It’s made with tortillas filled with bbq chicken, smoked gouda cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, crispy bacon, and ranch dressing. It’s seriously really really good!

Ingredients

Here’s what you need to make these bbq chicken wraps:

Labeled ingredients for bbq chicken wraps.

Chicken breast – cook it yourself or use rotisserie/leftover chicken. I spiced my chicken with onion and garlic powder, cayenne, paprika, and oregano but it would also work with just salt and pepper if you’re in a hurry because bbq and ranch sauces are already pretty flavorful.

BBQ sauce – use your favorite bbq sauce.

Ranch dressing – use store-bought or my favorite homemade recipe (it’s ready in 5 minutes!). I must admit I wasn’t sure if I should put both bbq sauce and ranch sauce into this wrap but they work together beautifully!

Bacon – you will need cooked bacon for this recipe. You can cook it quickly in a pan or cook it in the oven.

Veggies – lettuce (I prefer crunchy lettuce types such as baby romaine hearts) and tomatoes.

Tortilla – you will need large, burrito-sized, tortillas for this recipe.

Cheese – cheese is optional because there is already a lot going on in this wrap but I really like it here. Cheddar will work too but my favorite cheese in this recipe is smoked gouda. It works really well with bbq sauce.

How to make it step by step

Seasoned chicken fillets on a plate. Chicken is being cooked in a pan.

STEP 1: Cut the chicken breasts in half horizontally so you have 4 thinner fillets. Season the chicken with spices, salt, and pepper on both sides.

STEP 2: Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken until cooked through and browned on both sides.

Bbq chicken in a pan. Tortilla with cheese and lettuce on a plate.

STEP 3: Transfer to a chopping board and cut into slices. Place it back in the pan and toss with bbq sauce.

STEP 4: Assemble the wraps: place 1-2 slices of cheese on each tortilla, top with lettuce leaves.

You can warm up your tortilla to make it more pliable – it makes folding wraps easier.

Bbq chicken wraps ready to be wrapped. Warmed up bbq chicken wrap on a plate.

STEP 5: Top with bbq chicken, bacon, tomato slice, then drizzle over some ranch dressing.

STEP 6: Wrap the tortilla. Place the wrap in a sandwich/panini press until warm.

If you’re struggling with folding wraps, make sure to not overfill them which makes folding them harder.

You could also reheat it in the oven, just to melt the cheese. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.

Enjoy!

Storage

You can store these wraps for up to 24 hours in the fridge but I would recommend storing all the ingredients separately because the wraps will soften significantly from the sauces.

Cooked chicken and bacon can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Ranch dressing will keep in the fridge for up to a week.

You can also meal prep these wraps for 3 days, but assemble them just before serving.

I’m new to this site but the recipe looks sooo good. I’m an ICU nurse returning Wednesday from a month with Covid and for simplicity I bought frozen bbq tenders. But I need to lose the bed rest weight so I will definitely be buying chicken breasts and following the recipe!
